Designing Your Own Pumping Devices

Although Airpot Corporation does not manufacture a proprietary product line of pumps, innovative customers often take advantage of the special properties provided by the Airpot piston and cylinder combination to produce pumping and pressure handling devices of their own design.
For example, an Airpot Actuator or piston/cylinder set can be connected to a motor or solenoid (as shown at left) and used to pump air. Its low friction and inherent lubricity reduce power requirements and concerns about contamination from lubricants. Also, the low mass of the Airpot piston/cylinder assembly offers an advantage for small pumping devices that are designed for portable or wearable applications, such as air sampling pumps.
We are happy to work with customers who would like to adapt our Airpot Actuators or piston/cylinder sets to suit their individual pump requirements. We also can provide value added subassembly services. Please contact engineering@airpot.com if you have similar needs.
Guideline for Pumping Applications
Airpot devices do not use seals. Instead, they depend on a precisely matched close fit between the piston and cylinder to limit air loss. While the leak is very small and normally not detrimental to most applications, it should still be taken into consideration when evaluating our components for pumping or pulsing uses. The leak rates for all models are shown in their specifications pages.

NOTE: ALL UNITS ARE SINGLE ACTING (MAY BE PRESSURIZED ONLY IN THE EXTENSION DIRECTION) BUT VACUUM MAY BE USED FOR RETRACTION
